Nokia and Xiaomi Sign an Patent Licensing Agreement
On 6 December, 2017.Xiaomi and Nokia announced the signing of a Patent Licensing Agreement, which includes the cross-license of standard patents about cellular networks. Nokia will also provide some network infrastructures to Xiaomi. In addition, the two companies will explore potential cooperation in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
In the past, Nokia had signed Patent Licensing Agreement with leading mobile phone corporations, such as Apple and Samsung. This is the first time Nokia has concluded a licensing agreement with a Chinese manufacturer.
Today, Xiaomi owns more than 4,000 patents and near half of them are international. Xiaomi is currently seeking to rapidly intensify its internationalization process, which places an emphasis on patent acquisition and licensing agreements.
